The weekend in review

It was an quite an eventful weekend inside of the house, which means in short that we didn’t get much “done”, but we did do a lot. Friday we went out to a catered dinner with friends and listened to an enjoyable brass quintet. Following the entertainment, it was off to a bar to have a few glasses of libation then home.
Saturday we were off to a wine tasting in the afternoon, followed by a trip to the supermarket for ingredients to fondue. Which we prepared upon our return home, and watched a wine movie. We managed to sample three wines this night, and had some surprising results. Those reviews will be coming later, just as soon as we can decide upon a layout for them, and make better sense of our scratchings.
Sunday was indeed a lazy day, we did not make it to the art gallery opening as planned. It was however a nice day, as I believe we are both coming down with colds. We did manage to make a new recipe, Scallops in White Wine which of course was sampled with one new wine.

Wine Genius – Guru of the Grape

This was our first wine book, which was a life saver! I found that it was written in a very honest, very unpretentious format. If you are curious about wine, or need a refresher, this book may just be for you. On our very unofficial rating scale, we give this book at 4/5 grapes.

Hello world! Welcome to our world!

Well, this is my obligatory “Hello World” post. I’m trying to think about what I really want to say here, and this site and it’s plan has changed a bit. While the site is has been getting setup and ready to go, we have had a lot of brainstorming. Although the basic vision and feeling has remained the same, the actual path which the site has, and appears will take are going to be much different than originally thought. You may see a great many things on this site, wine reviews, restaurant reviews, music/book reviews, and who knows what else. The general theme for the site will be, the finer things for the common person. While I think that we can all agree that there is never enough $$ in our wallets, and we could always find something to complain about, there are good things in life. And that’s what we hope to accomplish here, find those good things in life that we can enjoy, and better yet, enjoy on a budget.
Currently we plan on having our group of good friends travel with us to restaurants and “taste” wines with us. We are however open to taking user submissions/reviews for restaurants, wines, books, music, pretty much whatever. Do you have a favorite bubble bath that goes quite well with a bottle of Merlot on a cold night? That’s fantastic, tell us all about it!
