Although the basic vision and feeling has remained the same, the actual path which the site has, and appears will take are going to be much different than originally thought. You may see a great many things on this site, wine reviews, restaurant reviews, music/book reviews, and who knows what else. The general theme for the site will be, the finer things for the common person. While I think that we can all agree that there is never enough $$ in our wallets, and we could always find something to complain about, there are good things in life. And that’s what we hope to accomplish here, find those good things in life that we can enjoy, and better yet, enjoy on a budget.
Currently we plan on having our group of good friends travel with us to restaurants and “taste” wines with us. We are however open to taking user submissions/reviews for restaurants, wines, books, music, pretty much whatever. Do you have a favorite bubble bath that goes quite well with a bottle of Merlot on a cold night? That’s fantastic, tell us all about it!
So if we have a good experience, then we will tell you about that. If it sucks for us, then well we are going to tell you that too.
How do we select wines to purchase then eventually sample/taste?
I wish there was a scientific or impressive sounding drawn out process to tell you about, but there isn’t. We usually buy wines that we enjoy during tastings at local liquor/wine stores, or after finding a good deal online, or from a recommendation from our friends/family. We have never picked up a random bottle for purchase simply to taste it’s content. I find that it is very important to read labels, and I simply hate when the wine label doesn’t tell you about the wine.
Most of the wines which will be reviewed will be bottles which have an average price of less than $25, with a special focus on bottles which are less than $15/$10. I’m sure we will have wines creep in from the high end of the scale as well, as Mike is a sucker for just about everything.
If you have a recommendation for us, by all means please do contact us and let us know!
Typically how we sample:
We are not spitters, we are swallower’s. Which of course means that we don’t sample wines to taste them and rate them, we want to drink them. In an ideal world, we will taste all of our wines with our standard cheese pairings, to see how we like them together. This of course, is not always possible, and could get boring. When the standard cheeses are not used, we will do our best to describe the food and or situation in which this wine was sampled. After all, the drinking experience generally has a large impact on the enjoyment of the wine.
